Each month, we will be talking to a member of staff and finding out a bit more about them and what their role is within the charity.
Name: Michelle Wright
Job Title: Trustee
What is involved in your role?
I’ve been involved with the charity since it was set up to help support the marketing where I can. Historically, this has primarily focussed on the marketing needed for the big fundraising challenges such as John O’Groats to Lands’ End and The Loneliest Road to ensure we make the most of the event and maximise fundraising opportunities and awareness.
The charity has grown at a staggering rate particularly in the last year or two and the services and
offering have changed dramatically. Over this time, I’ve started to become more actively involved in the other areas of the charity to formalise our marketing offer.
What is your background?
I started to work in marketing on an apprenticeship when I left school at 16 and haven’t looked back. Over the years I’ve worked across a range of industries and companies from Blue Chip to small businesses covering all aspects of Marketing, but particularly in marketing communications and brand.
What motivates you?
The great work the charity does motivates me most. The number of people I know and can see benefitting from this much needed service is that isn’t available when needed through NHS routes. No-one should have to struggle on without help and the numbers that are being supported with the Listening Ear service and counsellin, speak volumes from this dedicated team.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
The work I do for the charity makes me proud – it’s not playing lip service to a concern – they are really making a difference to Mental Health support. I love helping to raise the profile and communicating what they do, at any given opportunity I’m making people aware there is help and someone to talk to when needed. It’s a job that’s never complete as you don’t particularly notice it until the right time and you or someone you know needs the support.
If you could send a message out to the entire world, what would it be?
Check in on those around you, are they ok… really ok (a hashtag the charity has used for some time, but that constant reminder) schedule those catchups in – they’re important. Don’t leave it at ‘let’s catchup soon’, give them a time and date when you’re doing it. You probably both need it!
This month’s random question: If you could go on holiday anywhere in the world, where would it
be and why?
This maybe cheating and a little greedy but is always my what I’d love to do the most! A world Cruise to tick a lot off but mainly to see where I would like to go back to in my future travels.
