Since the start of 2023, we have seen more and more people offering their support to Kelly’s Heroes. Whether that be a way of giving back for the support they have received, using it towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award or simply because they have some spare time and would like to put it to good use.

Whatever the reason, as the charity is getting busier, your support could not come at a better time. Volunteering is a great way to get involved in the local community and make a difference, but it’s also important to find volunteer opportunity that fits your schedule and interests.

Here are some steps you can take when deciding whether you want to take on a volunteering role.

Identify the skills and knowledge you can offer.
Some of our volunteer opportunities may have certain skills. Assess the skills you currently have to see if there are specific roles you could volunteer for. Here at Kelly’s Heroes, we have a range of opportunities and with some, we could even offer you free training.

Determine how often you can volunteer.
Identify how many hours and days a week or month you can commit yourself to the position. For example, if you work a full-time job during normal business hours, you may only want to volunteer on a Saturday or Sunday. If you are a stay-at-home parent, you may want to volunteer more frequently. Being realistic about your availability can ensure you don’t overcommit yourself when volunteering.

Create a volunteer CV
Creating a volunteer CV that lists your previous experience as a volunteer as well as your skills and interests can be a great asset when applying for opportunities. A CV allows the us to quickly see what you have to offer and help find the most appropriate volunteer position for you.

Whatever your level of experience, we have roles to suit everyone. Want to chat or have any questions about volunteering? Email: katie@kellysheroes.org.uk
