Why this route
Hitting Rock Bottom

When someone reaches a point in their life where they think that things can’t get any worse and they’re not able to pick themselves up or find a way out, they probably feel like they’re at Rock Bottom

On 6th September we are setting of on a journey from rock bottom. Cycling from the rock of Gibraltar up through Spain and France, across the channel at Le Havre, finishing in Portsmouth.

A total of 1,265 miles of cycling and 57,000 feet climbing in just over 14 days!

Meaning and context

Our rides always have a meaning “The Loneliest Road” was to demonstrate to people feeling isolated, lonely and struggling that they were not on their own. There are people out there to help and support them through their toughest moments.

A Journey from Rock Bottom will hopefully be just as inspirational and help to show people that even at their lowest point, being brave enough to ask for help can be the start of the journey back from Rock Bottom. Talking to someone, reaching out to a family member, friend, colleague or trained counsellor can help them take the first steps to climb back up that hill or mountain and put them on the right path/road to recovery.

As with any counselling, the journey can be extremely tough, especially in the early days/weeks and there are bound to be some bumps and uphill climbs along the way before things get easier. The route that we have planned demonstrates this perfectly.
